Every elder in your family is a library of wisdom. They carry stories, songs, proverbs, and prayers that exist nowhere else in the world. When an elder speaks, they are not just talking they are passing on the memory of generations. Our tradition teaches that when an elder speaks, the wise listen. Not politely. Not distractedly. Fully. This is how wisdom survives.
I encourage you to make time for the elders in your life. Visit them. Sit with them. Put your phone away. Ask them about their childhood, their parents, the traditions they remember. Listen to the same story twice if they want to tell it again. Write down what they share. Record their voice if they allow it. These are treasures you cannot buy. And when you listen, you are doing something sacred—you are keeping the ancestors alive. One day, you will be the elder. Will anyone have listened to you? Be that listener now.
