Cancel Culture is Not Our Way: A Message on Ubuntu
The modern world is obsessed with cutting people off. “Cancel culture” is the opposite of Ubuntu—the philosophy that “I am because we are.” In the ancestral realm, there is no such thing as a disposable person. You don’t cut a branch off the tree because one leaf is dying; you nurture the root. This doesn’t mean tolerating abuse, but it does mean that our approach to conflict should be restorative, not punitive. We must learn to hold people accountable by bringing them closer to the community, not pushing them further away.
