In our tradition, the kitchen is not a place of drudgery. It is a sacred space. When a mother cooks for her family, she is not just preparing food she is pouring love, memory, and blessing into every pot. My grandmother used to hum while she cooked. She said the food should hear good sounds before it reaches the ones she loves. I have never forgotten that. To this day, I believe a meal prepared with a grateful heart nourishes more than the body.
I encourage young people to learn the dishes of their lineage. Ask your mother or grandmother to teach you. Write down the recipes. Cook them slowly, with intention. When you stir the pot, stir with love. When you serve, serve with gratitude. A shared meal is one of the oldest ceremonies we have. It gathers people, softens hearts, and reminds us that we belong to one another. The kitchen is where tradition lives every single day—if we let it.
